Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is an animated program for preschoolers ages 2 to 4 which builds on the pioneering PBS series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. It is one of the top animated series on PBS Kids and has garnered a host of prestigious awards, including most recently a 2014 Parent’s Choice Silver Award.
As a writer and producer, I had the privilege of creating an animated spot, along side creative director Gordon Harris, to help promote the premiere of a new episode.
To create the 30 second spot, I researched the educational objectives of the show, then watched and recorded specific aspects that aligned with the core objectives.
I found that highlighting how kids learn new lessons at a young age, would be a profound aspect to push to parents.
Here is the final 30 second spot along with the script. I also developed a 15 second cut down.
Note: Most scripts get reworked slightly in production.
